Have you ever gone hiking and become drawn to the little side trails that seem overgrown with weeds? You can tell that these trails were once traveled but by very few people. These paths are often treacherous & challenging. But, I have found that often times these roads lead to some of the most beautiful places. I remember one such trail led into a cave. It was dark. There were bats and all kinds of strange noises. The path narrowed to the point where you had to crawl on your belly thru mud and water. Afterwards it opened up into a beautiful large cavern with sunshine, stalactites hanging from the ceiling, and an awesome array of colors from the minerals in the dirt. This rich experience in God’s nature would have never been possible without a willingness to go down the “road less traveled”.
Matthew 7:13-14 says "...For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.” The crowds of this world have worn a large, well traveled path to destruction and hell. Many have gone this way and even we in the church have traveled this way for many different reasons. But, there is a “road” that leads to life. There’s an awesome life waiting for you so full of God’s favor and so fulfilling in way you could never imagine.
1 Corinthians 2:9 says, "Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor have entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for those who love Him." The way of the Lord is no easy road. It takes discipline, courage, and tenacity to travel this road. It forces you to toughen up, grow up, stand up, and look up like never before. BUT, God promises that you will rise up in ways you could never even dream of.
Over the next several weeks I am going to be preaching about this spiritual journey in a series entitled “The Road Less Traveled”. We will be taking a close look at Romans chapters 12-16 and expounding on the spiritual survival skills that must be developed if we want to experience the abundant life that God has in store for us. Be warned - it will test our faith, our love, our commitment, and our spiritual stamina like never before. But, in the end, we will be stronger and spiritually richer people. So how about it? Are you ready to take a spiritual adventure? Are you ready to pull away from the crowd and the norm and become a “radical” disciple for Christ? Then let’s take “The Road Less Traveled”.
